Apex Legends' Quitter Penalty Was Accidentally Made Live by Respawn

Apex Legends recently had a Quitter Penalty feature added to the game which would penalize those who left games early in succession, but it turns out this was not supposed to go live and Respawn has no "ETA for if or when this would come out for real."

As reported by Game Informer, this feature was accidentally included in a recent patch and would give players a five-minute cooldown between matches if they were found to have quit mid-match for three or more times in a row.

This penalty would not apply to players who quit without a full squad or for those who have already been eliminated. The focus of this would be for those who are constantly quitting and leaving their teammates in a tough spot.

As previously mentioned, however, this was not planned to go live, and Respawn community manager Jayfresh took to Reddit to explain the mistake in further detail.

"So internally, we have been working on and testing this feature but it wasn't our intention or plan to have it go live with the update that went out today," Jayfresh said. "There was a piece of script that was missing and caused the leaving match early penalty to be turned on when it shouldn't be. That's why it wasn't in the patch notes."

"We updated the script, tested with QA and it's now disabled for all platforms. We don't have an ETA for if or when this would come out for real. Apologies for the confusion."

So, as of now, there is no word on if this Quitter Penalty or some variation of it will ever make it into Apex Legends. However, it's a good sign to know they are working ever towards improving the community that crossed 50 million players last month.
