Heavy Rain, Beyond: Two Souls, and last year's Detroit: Become Human will all be available on PC later this year exclusively through the Epic Games Store.
Speaking to IGN via email when asked about whether these games would see any notable changes, Quantic Dream Co-CEO and Head of Publishing Guillaume de Fondaumiere confirmed there will be, but that Quantic Dream is not yet ready to discuss those changes. Additionally, more details about controller support vs. mouse and keyboard control schemes will be discussed at a later date as well. de Fondaumiere said, despite moving these games away from being Sony exclusives Sony continues "to be a partner with whom we entertain an excellent relationship with."
Steve Allison, head of the Epic Games Store, said the company is "thrilled" to be partnering with Quantic Dream in this fashion, saying "These games really shine on PC and we're proud to be a part of [Quantic's] plans."
Epic has been making quite a few moves to bring games exclusively to the Epic Games Store, and Allison noted that the company treats each exclusive as its own partnership, "and in turn curation happens on a case-by-case basis.
"Exclusive games [are] handpicked by an internal team whose focus is to offer a diverse range of quality titles that appeal to a wide assortment of players," he noted of Epic's process.
The deal overall marks an important move for Quantic Dream following the company's announcement earlier this year that it would no longer be developing solely for PlayStation platforms. de Fondaumiere told IGN that Quantic Dream was "establishing our publishing strategy" when they learned of Epic Games' store.
"Their unique proposition intrigued us and we reached out to them to learn more about their approach and evaluate the potential for a partnership," he said, noting that NetEase Games' minority stake, also announced in January, was unrelated to these discussions.
de Fondaumiere cited the store's favorable revenue sharing as one aspect of making Epic Games a favorable partner, as well as the ability for more exclusives to help raise the store's profile.
"While newly established, the Epic Games Store already boosts an impressive amount of users and every new exclusive release is going to raise awareness and attractiveness amongst the PC gamer community," he said. "Their curation will enable our games to stand alongside other high quality titles. Their selective catalogue will give more exposure to our titles, in particular at launch."
The exclusivity agreement will last for one year for each game, and de Fondaumiere noted Quantic has had early talks "with all other major storefronts," and that these talks could resume in the future.
All three games had previously been exclusive to PlayStation consoles, with Detroit having just come to PS4 last year in May.
Quantic and Epic made the announcement during the Epic keynote presentation at GDC 2019.
