Fortnite's Big Countdown Event Might Only Happen Once

Be at the rocket tomorrow afternoon to find out.

Fortnite fans have been (im)patiently waiting to find what an in-game countdown is leading up to since a mysterious skull showed up more than a week ago. And if new reports are to be believed, whatever is going to happen is only going to happen is a once-in-a-gametime event.

Popular Fortnite YouTuber Elliott "Muselk" Watkins tweeted early this morning that "something big" is going to happen at 1:30 p.m. ET/10:30 a.m. PT tomorrow, and it will only "happen once." While Watkins declined to provide any additional info, The Verge reported hearing similar rumors.

Players will allegedly need to be logged into Fortnite and gathered at the rocket to witness the event live, according to The Verge. These reports line up with the existing belief that whatever is happening in Fortnite tomorrow would revolve around the aforementioned rocket.

Shortly after the skull showed up on TVs, players noticed a hologram over the rocket. A datamine then supposedly revealed text for a launch sequence that players would be able to initiate themselves. Later, the TV message was changed to a countdown timer, and players began hearing a siren occasionally going off near the rocket. At the same time, Epic Games released Week 9 challenges, but it's not clear if the two are connected.

A hologram at the evil lair seems to be the start of a rocket launch event.

IGN has reached out to Epic Games for comment and will update this story should it issue a response. But with little over 24 hours to go until the supposed rocket launch, players will soon find out regardless what the countdown is pointing toward.
