The documentary titled, Raising Kratos, was announced in a trailer featuring game director for God of War, Cory Barlog; the team at Santa Monica Studio; along with the actors who portrayed the main characters in the game, such as Kratos, Atreus, and Freya.
"It’s only fitting on the one-year Anniversary, we’re excited to share this peak behind the curtain of God of War’s very own Santa Monica Studio with a trailer for our upcoming film, Raising Kratos," a post on the PlayStation blog said. "This full-length feature documentary, coming very soon to PlayStation YouTube, is an exploration into the massive undertaking it took to change the course of the God of War franchise."
Raising Kratos is said to detail the 400 hours of footage and three years of production it took to create what ended up being an award-winning game that transformed the series forever.
Fans were speculating about the final shot in the trailer for Raising Kratos, as it shows never-before-seen footage, leaving fans curious if it was teasing a sequel to PS4's God of War.
Barlog clarified the footage in a tweet shortly after the trailer released, noting that it was originally going to be a teaser on the God of War 3 remastered edition for PS4, but they ran out of time getting it on the disc itself.
"Oh, to all asking about the final shot in the trailer. That was the original pre-rendered teaser trailer for GOW 2018 we were going to hide on the GOW 3 remastered PS4 release. But we ran out of time to get it on the disc so it ended up getting put on the shelf until now," Barlog's tweet read.
God of War released on April 20, 2018 and sold over 5 million copies within the first month. It won dozens of awards, including Game of the Year from The Game Awards, BAFTA Game Awards, and numerous publications, including IGN, along with winning Outstanding Achievement in Video game Writing from the Writers Guild of America.
IGN scored God of War a 10/10, saying in our review that, "God of War is a masterful composition of exceptional interlocking parts, deliberate in its design and its foreshadowing, which pays off in unexpected ways in both the gameplay and story."
Barlog recently confirmed there are no DLC's planned for God of War, as he previously told IGN that his ideas would have taken too long to create, but to expect more anniversary content – such as what we know now as Raising Kratos.
