Left 4 Dead Creators Working on Unannounced Title in 'A Globally Known Franchise'

Turtle Rock Studios' next game sounds like a big one.

Left 4 Dead fans' long wait for a third game doesn't look any closer to being over today, but Turtle Rock Studios, the developer that created that series and went on to make Evolve, is apparently working "on a globally known game franchise."

As first noticed today by a ResetEra user, Turtle Rock is hiring for a Senior Level Designer to work "on an unannounced AAA title." Turtle Rock has yet to officially reveal the AAA title in question, but the job posting is looking for someone who can create "fun encounters" and "awesome level layouts."

Whatever the game is, it sounds likely to continue Turtle Rock's tendency to create multiplayer games, as the listing also references "competitive and balanced map layouts." Turtle Rock is also looking for a designer with experience working on modern FPS engines like Unreal Engine 4 and competitive AAA FPSs. That Turtle Rock is making another shooter is perhaps not surprising since – with the exception of a single mobile game called Leap Sheep! – every game the studio has released to date has been an FPS.

In addition to the designer role, Turtle Rock also has a number of programmer, artist, designer, and producer openings to work on what appears to be the same AAA shooter.

Back in 2016, Turtle Rock announced it was working on "a new franchise set in an all-new universe." It's not clear if this established franchise game means that entirely new project has been abandoned.

Earlier this month, Turtle Rock announced it would be shutting down the dedicated servers for Evolve, its most recent game, on September 3. Turtle Rock created Evolve after Valve brought development of Left 4 Dead 2 internal. In a bid to save Evolve, Turtle Rock transitioned it into a free-to-play model in July 2016, but support for Evolve: Stage 2 ended only a few months later.
