During yesterday’s Activision financial call, which discussed the results of the company’s first quarter 2019, it was confirmed that the next game in the long-running series would be revealed later on in 2019’s second quarter.
The second quarter of 2019 will end on June 30. E3 2019 sits squarely within the quarter, but it seems more likely that Activision may opt to announce this year’s Call of Duty at a dedicated event prior to E3, as it did for Black Ops 4 last year.
The call offered no information about the upcoming game, but we do know that it will feature a story campaign, that it is Infinity Ward on duties for this year’s entry, and that it is due for release in the traditional Q4 slot..
After the damp response to the developer’s last game, the sci-fi Infinite Warfare, many fans are expecting and hoping Infinity Ward to return to the Modern Warfare setting that helped propel Call of Duty to mainstream popularity.
Last month Activision showed the upcoming game to a collection of athletes as part of their Call of Duty Partner program. Footage taken by an attending footballer posted to their Instagram account has led people to believe that the next game may indeed be Modern Warfare 4.
