New Life Is Strange 2 Trailer Teases The New Powers
1 hour ago
Dontnod Entertainment has released a teaser trailer for Life Is Strange 2 and, based on the cop-flinging footage, we're starting to get an idea of what types of powers might be at play in the upcoming episodic adventure. One thing is for sure, and that is that it appears LIS2 will be going a darker route than previous entries in the series.
There's probably a Marvel vs. DC joke here, but we don't want to make it until we've actually gotten our hands on Life Is Strange 2. Based on what we're seeing in the above trailer, it certainly appears this sequel will be taking the series in a more gritty direction. The original Life is Strange and its spin-offs weren't all sunshine and rainbows, but they certainly didn't depict a police officer and his car being hurled through the air by some unknown source.
Speaking of which, it sure looks like telekinesis will be at play in this next outing for the series, which would make sense, considering how things played out in The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit. We don't want to get too deep into spoiler territory for that single-chapter prequel that's free to all comers on all platforms right now, but, suffice it to say that some powers seen in Captain Spirit appear to be popping up again in this official LIS2 trailer.
Perhaps the most impressive thing about this trailer is that it still only hints at a story we have very little information about. Set to launch on Sept. 27 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC, Dontnod has managed to keep the details of their latest story under wraps up to this point. That's basically a miracle in this age of leaks aplenty.
However, it appears we won't have to wait until late September to finally get some of those details. The trailer ends with a promise that "all will be revealed" on Aug. 20, which is when we assume a more substantial trailer will finally be rolled out. At this point, all we know is that the game is set in the same universe as the first Life is Strange, but that the story, cast and location will be different. We also know that Captain Spirit is a prequel, though we aren't clear on how, exactly, that story will feed into this new game.
Based on this latest trailer, we know that the game will be set somewhere around the timeframe of Oct. 28, 2016, the date displayed on the police officer's dash cam. In the trailer, he gets out of his car to investigate a 10-10, which means a fight has broken out. Something happens off-camera and, next thing you know, Officer Matthews is hit by a force powerful enough to launch him into the street and flip his car. We're guessing the new game's protagonist was being bullied, lost control of his power and Matthews was caught in the crossfire, or maybe something more sinister is at play here. Maybe the person with the power was the one instigating the conflict? We'll just have to wait until Aug. 20 to find out.
