Nintendo Announces A Huge Lineup Of Switch Indie Games
1 hour ago
During the Nintendo Switch's tenure on the market the company has been focused very much on independent games for the console. The Wii U had a few indie titles, but they were far and few between. Nintendo went in the complete opposite direction with the Switch, so much so that the term "Nindies" was coined to promote independent titles releasing on Nintendo's platforms. The latest big announcement from Nintendo focused on a slew of independent titles due for release in the near future, as well as highlighting some of the big games that gamers have been looking forward to from the indie development community.
In the latest Nindies showcase featured over on the official Nintendo website, the company rolled out info on some of the biggest indie hits coming to the Switch, including Heart Machine's crowdfunded hit, Hyper Light Drifter. The game was originally released on PC and later for the PS4 and Xbox One back in 2016. The Legend of Zelda-Inspired action-RPG will finally make its debut on the Switch September 6th. The game isn't just being ported to the Switch, though. Port house Abylight Studios has worked on implementing all new locations, new weapons, and a new costume exclusive for Switch owners.
Speaking of new content, gamers will experience all new content in the Switch version of Towerfall, which features local multiplayer for up to six players. The game features over 90 options and 400 levels. Additionally, the main heroine from Celeste will be playable in the game as well when it launches on the Switch starting September 27th.
If you're into Puzzle Bobble-style games then you'll likely appreciate the launch of Treasure Stack on the Switch starting at some point this winter. Interestingly enough this appears to be a Switch exclusive, for now, from Pixelakes. So this is definitely a big score for Switch owners.
Zarvot is an interesting game, which is a 3D isometric action-shooter set across various origami-themed maps. Snowhydra Games' action-oriented multiplayer title is another timed exclusive, which will launch first on the Nintendo Switch.
There's also Mineko's Night Market, which is a story-based adventure game boasting more than 20 hours worth of content, spanning four regions to explore, and partake in a number of unique mini-games in order to sell items and make money. It's hard to pinpoint exactly what kind of game this is, but the charming art-style and largely diverse gameplay mechanics really set it apart from almost everything else on the market. The game is due out in early 2019.
Not all of the games are new indies, though. Some of the games coming to the Switch includes Wasteland 2: Director's Cut, Undertale, Bastion, Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery and Transistor. There's also the Jackbox Party Box 5, which is also set to arrive on the Switch.
If you're into cooperative side-scrolling games, there's also Samurai Gunn 2, LevelHead and Bullet Age. LevelHead is pretty interesting because it's like Super Mario Maker, but it features local multiplayer. Samurai Gunn 2 is like a classic NES hardcore platformer made for today's platforms, and Bullet Age is very similar to Mercenary Kings where you can collect guns, customize your weapons, and battle bosses.
Last but not least is the turn-based strategy game, Into The Breach, which has also made the leap from PC to Switch. After gaining a cult classic following during its launch earlier this year in February, Subset Games' dystopian turn-based strategy game themed around mechanized combat was surprisingly announced as being available right now for the Nintendo Switch. If you enjoyed the classic Advanced Wars games or other tile-based strategy titles such as Wartile, then you might want to give Into The Breach a look-see.
