Outer Wilds, the peculiar sci-fi adventure game that feels like “No Man’s Sky-lite,” will be a timed exclusive on the Epic Games Store, developer Mobius Digital announced Friday on the game’s Fig page.

Mobius Digital says that Outer Wilds will first come to the Xbox One and PC via the Epic Games Store, with other platforms “coming later.” No exact release window or roadmap was specified.
“Rest assured that we read all of your comments and our goal is to bring the game to your preferred platform as quickly as possible,” the developer wrote. “Throughout the development of the game, we’ve welcomed helpful partnerships with Annapurna Interactive, XBox, and Epic to support us and keep our small studio running long enough to ship the game at the level of quality that it is today. Each of these partnerships has enabled us to make the game better and more accessible for everyone who will play it.”
Mobius Digital added that they plan to share info on an official release date soon.
It’s a smaller, but still significant victory for the Epic Games Store and their ongoing business strategy of acquiring exclusive rights to high-profile games over Steam’s historic dominance of PC digital downloads. On the same day, Ubisoft announced that Ghost Recon: Breakpoint will only be available on the Epic Games Store and Ubisoft’s own Uplay client, not Steam. It’s far from the only Ubisoft game Epic Games managed to snag, having previously acquired Anno 1800 and The Division 2.
