PlayStation Plus Members Get Mafia III And More In August

Every month, PlayStation Plus subscribers constantly discuss, debate, argue and fawn over the selection of PlayStation Plus games that are rolled out for free. Sometimes gamers are angry about the offerings, given that the titles are indie games or low-quality, while other months gamers get really excited about the offerings because there are some high-quality, AAA titles that are given out for free for PS Plus subscribers. This month, gamers are quite excited about the line-up of games that will be available as part of PS Plus for August, which includes a couple of AAA games and some multiplayer titles, including Mafia III and Dead By Daylight.
The news was rolled out over on the PlayStation Blog. August will get started with Mafia III for the PS4, which came out back in late 2016 for home consoles and PC. It received mostly positive review scores and featured a different take on the franchise compared to what 2K Czech did with the first Mafia and Mafia II by focusing on a fictional town set in a New Orleans-inspired map. The game made upgrades in some areas but also had plenty of downgrades in other areas, which is why it was received with a mixed bag of criticism by gamers. Nevertheless, you'll be able to play it for yourself to find out why there's a love-hate relationship with the open-world action title.
Next on the list is Dead By Daylight, the highly popular asymmetrical horror game from Behaviour Interactive. This game took the Steam community by storm when it first came out back in 2016 as an Early Access title. It was a wholly different take on the horror genre that allowed one player to take on the role of the killer, and four other players to assume the role of survivors. This kind of setup was also mirrored in the other asymmetrical multiplayer horror game, Friday The 13th: The Game. Anyone who is already subscribed to PS Plus will be able to play Dead By Daylight, so whether you have some friends or you're willing to make some new enemies, you can check the game out for free during the month of August.
The other four games are for the PS3 and PS Vita, starting with Bound By Flame, which was a late-gen action-RPG from Focus Home Interactive and Spiders, the makers of The Technomancer and the profoundly titled Of Orcs and Men. The game was a low-key release and didn't really burn up the marketplace like Focus Home may have hoped for, but the company focuses on AA-style titles so it likely did what it was intended to do. What isn't mentioned on the PS Blog is if Bound By Flame is a cross-buy title for the PS4, since it was a cross-gen title.
Up next is one of my favorite shooters from seventh gen, Serious Sam 3 BFE. The game was a really fun romp through an action-packed experience retelling the tale before the original Serious Sam. Croteam really notched up the graphics and added some cool mod support on the PC version. And, even while the PS3 version lacks mod support, at least you'll still have a solid shooter to play.
For the PS Vita there's Draw Slasher and Space Hulk. The former is a touchscreen-based fighting game, while the latter is an isometric hack-and-slash action RPG. You'll be able to gain access to all six games if you have a PS Plus subscription.
