There hasn’t been a lot of talk about a new Razer Phone. With the company announcing its decision to close the Razer Game Store earlier this week as part of its realignment plans, many were wondering what that would mean for the future of its phone division. Some reports suggest that Razer has actually canceled the Razer Phone 3 project.

DroidLife reported based on a tip that Razer has laid off the majority of its mobile device and hardware engineer staff last week in addition to some in marketing. It was also claimed that a few employees would remain to work on future software updates for the Razer Phone 2 but that there wouldn’t be a successor to the device.

Razer has since confirmed tot he scribe that it has “shut down several projects” and laid off about 30 employees. Other employees of the affected project will thus be moved to different parts of the company to work on other projects.

The company initial statement didn’t address the specific concern about the Razer Phone 3. It has since clarified the comments, adding that “We see great opportunities in the mobile gaming space that we created with the Razer Phone and will continue to invest in this category through a combination of hardware and software initiatives. We are working on new exciting mobile projects and will share the news when we are ready.”
