A new trailer for Vader Immortal: A Star Wars VR Series - Episode I reveals new aspects of the game’s story and gameplay: lightsaber wielding and all.

The trailer begins with the player being interrogated by an imperial officer, who says “You’ve caused us considerable inconvenience. In a moment, the lord of this monolith will give you a task. A word of advice: do not anger Vader."

Now that Darth Vader has found the player character, he’s “in reach of enormous power,” and the character must escape his fortress on Mustafar. The trailer shows a droid companion ZOE3 (voiced by SNL’s Maya Rudolph) traveling with and helping the player.

A female character then says “It appears Vader has finally found his candidate, and our future is in your hands.” After this, Darth Vader says “You are the one I’ve been searching for. Do as I command."

The trailer then shows footage of the player deflecting blaster beams with a lightsaber, sending a ship into hyper speed, and Vader and the player taking down droids with their lightsabers.

A description of the game on the official website reads: "Step into a galaxy far, far away and experience the first Star Wars story designed exclusively for virtual reality. Descend into Darth Vader's mysterious fortress alongside new allies and encounter fearsome enemies, including the Sith Lord himself. Be at the center of a story in which you hold the key to the galaxy's salvation... or destruction."

Developed by ILMxLAB, the first episode of Vader Immortal will launch alongside the Oculus Quest headset, and can be played on the Oculus Rift as well. During a Star Wars Celebration Chicago panel, it was revealed that Steve Blum (who plays Zeb in Star Wars Rebels) voices an imperial officer, possibly the one who speaks at the beginning of the trailer.

IGN’s Brian Altano had a chance to go hands-on with Vader Immortal at SWCC, saying “Darth Vader in VR is really scary. He’s really tall, he’s looming, he’s got this big billowing cape and he’s got his mechanical parts and he’s just wheezing and gross.”

Vader Immortal was announced as a three-part series last year, and there’s no specific release date, but it’s set to launch on Oculus Quest this spring.
