The Call Of Duty: Black Ops 4: Blackout Beta Is Live On PS4

It's a big day for Call of Duty fans as Activision and Treyarch launch the beta for their brand new battle royale mode, Blackout. It's available now on the PlayStation 4, with Xbox One and PC players invited to join the fight later this week. If you've been wondering what 80-player mayhem looks like through the lens of Black Ops 4, now's your chance to find out.

Activision announced earlier today the official launch of the Blackout beta on the PlayStation 4. Before we get into the event calendar and gameplay details, you'll probably want to know how you can join the fun. If you pre-ordered Black Ops 4 on any platform, you should have received a beta invite. The beta client went live last month for folks looking to try out the standard multiplayer modes. If you happened to delete the client, you'll want to hop back into your download history and grab it again, as the same client will be your passport to checking out Blackout.

The PlayStation 4 beta is live now and runs through Monday, Sept. 17, at 10 a.m. PT. The Xbox One beta kicks off on Friday, Sept. 14, at 10 a.m. PT and will conclude at the same time as the PS4 beta. The PC crowd can jump in on Saturday, Sept. 15, beginning at 10 a.m. and, again, it will run through the same end date.

The beta includes the full Blackout map, which consists of a bunch of fan-favorite Black Ops locations and areas inspired by said locations, such as Nuketown, Firing Range, Raid, and Cargo. As for your character, you'll be able to pick from a bunch of avatars pulled directly from the series' history, including campaign commandos like Mason and Woods, Zombies characters like Takeo and Richtofen, as well as specialists including Crash and Seraph. When you get dropped onto the map, you'll be left to your own devices in order to find weapons, gear, and attachments. There will also be plenty of vehicles to choose from including land, air, and sea crafts.

The objective, like with all battle royale games, is to be the last person/squad standing. The gunplay will likely be super dialed in because our understanding is that these Treyarch folks are pretty-dang familiar with shooters at this point. Oh, and zombies can be triggered as an in-game event, too.

The full Black Ops 4 experience will be available when the game launches on Oct. 12. Unlike previous Call of Duty games, this one won't include a single player campaign. Instead, you'll get Blackout, as well as the usual, robust collection of multiplayer modes, as well as three initial chapters for the new Zombies mode.
