The Latest Nintendo Switch Port Seems Like An Odd Choice - CINEMABLEND

A lot of game companies have been selecting the Nintendo Switch to port games to the platform after it had a strong 2017, and it continues to move lots of SKUs throughout 2018. Some publishers are pulling out recent games and porting them to the Switch, while other publishers are going a slightly different route and bringing over older games to the Switch. Deep Silver is one of the publishers looking to port more games to the Nintendo Switch, giving gamers an option to play some classic games from last gen, but the one game that Deep Silver decided to port to the Switch is a really odd choice given the extensive library of games at Deep Silver's disposal.

That's right, Saints Row: The Third is coming to the Nintendo Switch. Over on the official Deep Silver UK Twitter page, the company announced that more info will be revealed during GamesCom. It's an odd choice given that it's not Saints Row 4, which is the latest game in the series (or technically Agents of Mayhem if we're talking about the latest game in the Saints Row universe). It's also an odd choice given that Deep Silver also forfeited porting over Saints Row and Saints Row 2.

The first two games were what really put the series on the map before it went the more satirical and comical route in Saints Row: The Third. In fact, many still consider Saints Row 2 to be the best in the series given how much content was packed into it and how much freedom players were given. But starting with the third game is still a really weird choice by Deep Silver. However, it could be due to a number of reasons, including portability, testing engine specs on the Switch and measuring scalability. For instance, Saints Row 2 was notorious for being a terrible PC port with poor optimization, whereas Saints Row: The Third and Saints Row 4 both worked great on every platform they released on.

Maybe after getting the third game to work properly on the Switch, it could open the door for releasing more of Volition Software's games on the Switch, including Saints Row 4 and Gat out of Hell, or maybe even Agents of Mayhem, which just came out last year.

Some gamers were curious if this meant that the game would be coming to the PS4 as well, but Deep Silver stated that right now the focus is on getting Saints Row: The Third up and running on the Switch at the moment.

In order to get an idea of what the quality of the port would be like, gamers also asked which port house would be handling the Nintendo Switch version. Deep Silver was kind enough to reveal that Fishlabs is handling the port. The German outfit is already quite familiar with the Nintendo Switch, having worked on Manticore: Galaxy on Fire, which received positive feedback from gamers.

Deep Silver didn't say when Saints Row: The Third would launch on the Switch, but expect release date news to appear soon.
