Ubisoft Cancels Plans to Increase the Division 2's Gear Score Cap

Ubisoft has announced that it is cancelling plans to increase The Division 2’s Gear Score cap in the wake of feedback from players.

Title Update 3, which will launch later this month, was originally set to increase the game’s Gear Score limit from 500 to 515, with new higher score items added to the game.

However, feedback from players suggested this would be a bad move. The increase would make all high-tier character builds obsolete, and immediately outdate all level 500 weapons and items. With the Raid due to go live shortly, it would mean all efforts by players to upgrade characters to max Gear Score level in preparation would be undone.

“We don't want to invalidate your progression and we heard that feedback loud and clear from our community. Your gear and your builds are important to you and to us,” Ubisoft said in an update on The Division 2 website.

“The statistical increase in stats would have made gear better but we don't want the focus to be on constantly chasing a higher Gear Score, when it should be about finding a playstyle and build that you enjoy,” the company added.

As such, the upcoming Raid will provide items at Gear Score 500. Priority Hard and Challenging missions will also drop items at a guaranteed score of 500. And if your character’s average Gear Score is 500, then Heroic Mission bosses, Stronghold bosses, Bounty bosses, and Control Point Alert Level 4 rewards will guarantee Gear Score 500 loot, too.

Contaminated loot found in the Dark Zone will not fall below your average Gear Score, either. There has also been a loot balance to reduce the chances of Gear Score items that are lower than your average score dropping, too.
