Warcraft 3 Is Getting Remastered

This year's opening ceremony at BlizzCon definitely had its ups and downs, but one thing that was definitely considered an "up" by the community was the announcement that the classic real-time strategy game Warcraft 3 is being remastered.

During the opening ceremony (via Eurogamer), Blizzard announced Warcraft 3: Reforged as a brand new game set to re-release for the masses in 2019, exclusively on PC ... well, for now. I could definitely see Blizzard announcing that the game will also appear on the Nintendo Switch at some point, given that the Switch is one of the few gaming devices actually designed to take advantage of control schemes built for real-time strategy games, thanks to the gyroscopic and accelerometer mechanics, as well as the touchscreen support.

The remake of Warcraft 3 comes 16 years after the original game came out way back in 2002 for PC. The classic game was the last in the trilogy of Warcraft strategy titles, before Blizzard Entertainment decided to try its hand at a completely different genre for the franchise -- taking it into the world of MMORPGs with the seminal release of World of Warcraft. That release came way back in 2004, just two years after the third game made its debut on home computer systems.

The remake for Warcraft 3 will feature all new remastered maps, along with remastered levels, all new quality of life upgrades for the user interface and controls. This includes upgraded icon layouts, world editor, and support for resolutions up to 4K UHD monitors.

Keep in mind that none of your old Warcraft 3 mods will carry over into Warcraft 3: Reforged, given that all of the graphics, scripts, character models, and assets have been remade and upgraded to fit the standards of today's computer gaming systems.

Blizzard highlighted the gritty new remake of Warcraft 3: Reforged with an awesome cinematic sequence that gamers absolutely loved.

The trailer recounts how the chaos came to the land, creating a new kind of horror and battle that extended beyond the calamitous fight between the orcs and the humans.

But the single-player campaign mode isn't the only thing getting some much needed makeover loving -- the multiplayer has also been revamped, too. This includes the implementation of smart matchmaking and balance tweaks within the multiplayer, so that players will be able to find PvP matches that best suit their skill level.

Warcraft 3: Reforged is currently available for pre-purchase right now, well ahead of its release. Those who put their money upfront right now will become beneficiaries of some slick loot in other Blizzard titles, including a mount in World of Warcraft with a working catapult.

While gamers may not have been all that keen on the Diablo: Immortal announcement, they definitely seemed to enjoy the news about Warcraft 3 getting the remake treatment. The only thing left to do now is sit patiently, eagerly waiting for the game to release in 2019 for PC.
