Warframe Announced for Nintendo Switch

Digital Extremes has revealed that Warframe is coming to Nintendo Switch. Panic Button, the studio responsible for porting games to Switch like Doom and Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, has partnered with Digital Extremes to bring the hit cooperative, sci-fi action game over to the Switch. This news comes as a welcome surprise from this year's TennoCon — the third annual convention for Warframe.

Warframe is a free-to-play, third-person, co-op shooter set in an ever-evolving universe. Players take on the role of a Tenno, a race of cybernetic ninja-like warriors, and have a chance to master the Warframe armor. The game features over 35 distinct Warframes armor sets, thousands of customization options, and hundreds of unique weapons. Warframe is also known for it flexible mod system, the ability to join clans, and its massive open worlds.

Warframe initially released on PC in 2013, and shortly after on PS4 and Xbox One. As ambitious of a port as it may seem, it's no real surprise that Digital Extremes went to Panic Button for help with the Switch version of Warframe. IGN scored Panic Button's recent port of Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus an 8.5, calling it "a respectable port of one of the greatest shooters of this generation," and stated that Doom for Switch is "a technical achievement for portable console gaming and an outstanding game in its own right."

Panic Button recently teased that it is working on a major Switch port and that the title would be announced this month. It seems now we finally have our answer as to what the mystery game is. Although no release date has been confirmed just yet, you can check out the trailer above to see Warframe running in action on Nintendo Switch.
