Watch The First Fifteen Minutes Of The Walking Dead: The Final Season
2 hours ago
Telltale Games is gearing up for The Walking Dead: The Final Season, and it will finally bring closure to Clementine's survival tale that started way back in 2012. This multi-year journey will finally come to an end this fall, and Telltale has been leading up to the big finale with a series of promotional videos. Telltale recently let loose 15 whole minutes worth of gameplay for the upcoming first episode of The Walking Dead: The Final Season, featuring some of the new mechanics, some of the story, and a look at how the gameplay is changing for Clementine's final outing.
The video was posted up over on the Telltale Games YouTube channel, the video starts with a zombie crawling along the street in an abandoned area when a muscle car speeds by with Clementine driving. Clementine is in the car with AJ while he's playing with a gun.
Players have the option to respond to AJ, and give him some items during the car ride. There are a few things on display that showcase the improved graphics, such as additional ambient occlusion in the environments, as well as added effects to Clementine's hair and clothing while the vehicle is moving.
These new effects are part of what Telltale has been working on to give the final season of The Walking Dead an added feeling of visual immersion. The changes aren't drastic, but if you compare the final season to the original first season that starred Lee, you can definitely see a difference in how the shaders have been improved.
After entering into a small compound, we then get to see what the new over-the-shoulder camera looks like as well as the overhauled combat system, which is more akin to Resident Evil than the typical quick-time event encounters from the previous Telltale games.
You can also walk and run now, moving through the environments with a lot more freedom than in past games. This adds a more survival-horror feel to the gameplay, as opposed to the traditional point-and-click gameplay that Telltale is known for.
Don't think that the dialogue tree system is changing, though. There's still a heavy focus on character interactions.
It definitely seems like Telltale is trying to capture more of the crowd who enjoy third-person shooters, in addition to narrative-driven games.
The final episode is also still heavily decision oriented. One of the main decisions proposed during the 15-minute video is whether to respect the wishes of a couple who committed suicide or kill them to take the key.
The big factor in The Walking Dead: The Final Episode is that the decisions that players make will affect what will eventually become of AJ. It's an interesting dynamic.
You'll be able to see how Clementine's story ends when The Walking Dead: The Final Season releases on August 14th for the Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
