More Evidence of a New Plants vs. Zombies Project Emerges
Could it be Garden Warfare 3?
After signs earlier this year pointed to a potential third entry in the Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare possibly being in the works, a new interview with EA Motive's Jade Raymond confirms that the Plants vs. Zombies franchise is far from dead at the publisher.
While EA Motive's main studio in Montreal released Star Wars: Battlefront II last year and is currently working on an untitled Star Wars game, Motive's satellite studio in Vancouver is developing a Plants vs. Zombies game, according to Raymond in a new interview with Edge via Xbox Achievements.
Raymond didn't provide any additional details on the Plants vs. Zombies game, but back in March, evidence arose of a third game in the Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare series. And while it's still not confirmed that that specific game is in development at Motive's Vancouver studio, it seems EA is continuing to invest in the franchise that began as a tower defense title.
Raymond also briefly discussed the completely new franchise her studio has been working on. It is still "in the early days" of development, but that development is going well.
"We're working on the concept," she continued. "We have pillars for the game, but when it comes to the way we go about having them come to life, and what we're going to prototype first, we have the designers break out into groups with all the people on the team — not just the people in the design team, or within the production or leadership team — and run brainstorms with everyone around these pillars."
Raymond's "Assassin's Creed"-style game was first announced in 2015.
As for Garden Warfare 3, the original rumor was based on the announcement of a new comic book said to bridge the gap between the second and unannounced third game. That book is available for preorder on Amazon with a September 25 release date, but the reference to Garden Warfare 3 was removed shortly after fans noticed it back in March.
Garden Warfare 2 released on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in February 2016. In our Garden Warfare 2 eview, IGN called it "a great online shooter with an unexpected wealth of single-player stuff too."
