Nintendo Switch Could Get Its Own New Monster Hunter Games

Capcom almost certainly won't attempt to bring Monster Hunter World to Switch, but it may be making entirely new Monster Hunter games for the console.

A recent shareholder's meeting Q&A transcript includes a Capcom executive saying that the company "plans to continue developing other titles for this platform in the future."

Per Twitter user Koudaiseidaos, that meeting also included a separate question that seems to indicate that Capcom would make Monster Hunter games for Switch specifically, rather than attempt to port home console games to a console with less power:

My translation of this tweet:

"Went to Capcom Shareholders Meeting, which went as expected. Regarding MH World, they said that it "can't be done on Switch," so it's futile to ask for a port. But, it appears instead that Capcom will proceed with MH made especially for Switch." https://t.co/OjmMQ6C133

Capcom wouldn't confirm or deny the translation when asked by IGN, but did provide a statement along similar lines:

“The current focus for the Monster Hunter brand continues to be with the launch of Monster Hunter World for home consoles and PC whilst we also continue to bring the series to handhold platforms with the upcoming release in the West of Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate on Nintendo Switch”.

Generations Ultimate is a port of 3DS game, Generations, and it's possible that Capcom will continue to target both Switch and 3DS in future, given the series' historically huge install base on Nintendo's older handheld.

Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate will launch on Switch on August 28, and we've listed everything new it's bringing along. Also in August, the PC will be getting its port of Monster Hunter World, which we called "as all-consuming and incredible a ride as ever."
