Voice Actor Seemingly Confirms A Major Villain For Insomniac's Spider-Man

The roster of characters featured in Insomniac Games' Marvel's Spider-Man is quite extensive. Even with the game due out for release later this year, there are still surprises and hints coming in regarding new characters and returning faces that gamers can expect to encounter in the open-world superhero game. One such character is one of the major villains that Spider-Man has had to face off against over the years, Doctor Ocotpus, who was apparently confirmed to appear in Marvel's Spider-Man seemingly by a voice actor from the game.

The reveal came accidentally from voice actor Chris Jai Alex, who voices Rhino in the upcoming Marvel's Spider-Man, he also happens to be the announcer for the multiplayer mode in the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. During a now deleted interview clip with YouTuber Drift0r (via Eurogamer), Alex accidentally revealed that Doctor Octopus is in the game, which made its way around the internet before Sony or Insomniac tried to scrub all the details from the internet.

In the clip Alex is talking about working on the fight scenes in Marvel's Spider-Man and how the designers and action choreographers have to scale the fights based on the different sizes of the villains. Alex explains that Doctor Octopus is really tall and Rhino is really big, the former due to the metal arm extensions and the latter due to the hulking armor.

Obviously, some keen-eared fans managed to duplicate segments of the interview before Drift0r removed it from his social media feeds.

Instantaneously a lot of people began speculating Doctor Octopus' role in the game. The most obvious conclusion from those who saw the E3 demonstration during Sony's press conference is that Doctor Octopus was the mystery person who showed up at the end of the demo but was not seen.

This makes a lot of sense given that it would complete the formation of the Sinister Six. There were five villains featured in the trailer, including Electro, Vulture, Shocker, Scorpion, and Rhino. If Doctor Octopus turned out to be the sixth member, then it would verify that Spider-Man really is facing off against the Sinister Six in the game.

Many fans have been speculating about different elements of the upcoming Marvel's Spider-Man, so it's definitely possible that this is one angle that Insomniac Games could take.

Others were wondering if maybe the mystery person from the trailer is an ally of some sort from the Spider-Man multiverse. Others speculated about potential crossovers with the Marvel Cinematic Universe after the Avengers Tower was spotted as an Easter Egg in Insomniac's game, leading to a lot of rumors about where the game fits between the various Marvel properties. However, Insomniac confirmed that Marvel's Spider-Man does not exist within the Marvel Cinematic Universe realm, so it's highly unlikely we'll see anyone from the films making their way into Spider-Man's game.

As for Doctor Octopus... it appears he's at least set to make an appearance in the game but in what capacity? We don't know. We'll have to wait for September 7th to find out how the Sinister Six fits into the story and what they're really after.
